Are you passionate about good coffee and providing excellent customer service? Do you love working in a welcoming and people-centred environment? We’re looking for an enthusiastic and reliable individual to join the Parliament of Western Australia catering team. 

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced Barista and Café attendant to work autonomously in a brand-new workplace café. This full-time role will work Monday to Friday (no weekend work or late nights).

About the Role

The Café is located on level 3 of 2 Parliament Place and provides services for approximately 200 internal Parliamentary staff and Members of Parliament.

The Barista Café Attendant is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and service of food and beverage requirements, barista service, presentation and cleaning of the café to a consistent high level of service. 

Specific Duties:  

  1. Working autonomously undertaking barista and café attendant duties.
  2. Accurate processing of sales through ‘Swiftpos’ point of sale and eftpos. 
  3. Selling of pre-packaged food and beverage items. 
  4. Maintaining stock levels by ordering stock from main Catering Services stores, via internal ordering procedure.
  5. Collecting stock orders from main Catering Services stores and restocking fridges ready for daily opening.
  6. Maintaining a clean café environment as per standard operating procedures and Food Safe Plus standard. 
  7. Cleaning of coffee machine and barista area as per standard operating procedures and Food Safe Plus standard. 
  8. Removal of all perishable waste from café at end of day using correct standard operating procedures. 
  9. Recording waste items daily via Swiftpos point of sale.
  10. End of day point of sale reconciliation and balancing. 
  11. Reporting of any café maintenance issues to Building Services. 
  12. Report any Work Health and Safety (WH&S) matters to the Dining Room Manager and the WH&S representative. 
  13. Assisting with event catering at any of the Parliamentary function venues as required. 

About You

This role requires someone with a positive attitude, very good organisational skills and excellent customer service. You will have a high degree of initiative to work independently in a small café at times working unsupervised, generating a high volume of espresso coffees and selling a small range of packaged food items.  

Applicants will need to meet the following criteria:

Essential:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a barista role.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar café environment.
  • Experience with touch screen point of sale systems, Swiftpos experience an advantage but not essential.
  • Very good organisational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated reliability, dependability and confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of work health and safety practices including safe chemical use and food safety standards (HACCP).
